In what can only be described as a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers routed the Minnesota State University-Mankato Mavericks with a final score of 9-2. The game took place at the 3M Arena at Mariucci on January 21, 2026.

The Golden Gophers were relentless from the start, firing off a staggering 55 shots against the Mavericks’ 30. Despite the best efforts of Mavericks’ goalie Evan Sundell, who managed to save 31 shots, the Gophers’ offensive onslaught proved too much to handle.

The Mavericks were unable to capitalize on any powerplay opportunities, going 0 for 0, while the Gophers managed to convert one of their single powerplay chance, adding to their impressive scoreline.

Golden Gophers’ goalie Owen Peterson was in top form, making 28 saves out of the 30 shots he faced. The Gophers’ #10 Noah Mogren also had a standout performance, providing 3 assists that greatly contributed to the team’s victory.

The Mavericks’ only goal came courtesy of Nathan Jaglo, but it was not enough to turn the tide in their favor.

With this resounding victory under their belt, the Golden Gophers are set to face Sault College in an away game on Friday, January 30 at 7:00 pm EST at the Northern Community Centre. After such a dominant performance, the Gophers are sure to enter their next match with high spirits and confidence.
