The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers skated to a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Minnesota State University-Mankato Mavericks at the NSC Super Rink this past Sunday. Despite a fiercely contested match, the Gophers managed to come out on top, thanks to their aggressive gameplay and superior shot count.
The Gophers outshot the Mavericks 43 to 33, creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, both teams struggled with their powerplay, as neither team managed to convert any of their three chances. The Gophers’ goalie, Owen Peterson, was kept busy, making an impressive 29 saves off 33 shots. On the other end of the ice, Mavericks’ goalie Evan Sundell had a tough night, saving 38 out of 43 shots.
The game saw some great individual performances as well. Gophers’ #6 Will Anderson and Mavericks’ #19 Owen Meyer both had two assists each, contributing significantly to their teams’ offensive efforts.
This win is a significant boost for the Gophers as they look forward to their next game against the University of Minnesota-Crookston. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at 5:00 pm CST at the NSC Super Rink. The Gophers will be hoping to continue their winning momentum on the road.
