In a heated contest at the NSC Super Rink, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers fell short to the University of Saint Thomas Tommies in a 5-2 final on February 8th. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Gophers couldn’t capitalize on their chances, finishing the game with 28 shots compared to the Tommies’ 35.
The Gophers’ powerplay unit struggled to convert, going 0 for 3, while the Tommies didn’t have any powerplay opportunities during the game. Gophers’ goalie, Owen Peterson, had a challenging night, facing 35 shots and making 30 saves. On the other side of the rink, Tommies’ goalie, Nick Hansen, made 26 saves on 28 shots.
Jackson Kuznik, a standout player for the Gophers, contributed with 2 assists, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tommies. Toran Dobchuk of the Tommies matched Kuznik’s performance with 2 assists of his own.
This loss marks a tough moment in the season for the Golden Gophers, but the team is looking to bounce back in their next game. They will be hosting Michigan State University on Friday, February 20th, at the Kube Sports Complex. The Gophers will need to regroup and refocus their efforts to come out strong in their upcoming match.
